AI in SAP Business One

24 August, 2026

SAP Business One 10.0 Feature Package 2608 now ships with built-in generative AI through two features: Ask AI, a conversational assistant embedded directly inside the ERP that answers natural-language questions using your live business data, and an AI-Powered Query Generation, which turns a plain-English description of a report into a ready-to-use, validated SQL query inside the standard User-Defined Query screen. Both run on SAP AI Core through SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), so they need a Pay-As-You-Go BTP account to switch on — but once enabled, they work right inside the SAP Business One screens your team already uses, with no separate tool or login.

This is huge for SAP Business One. SAP has finally heard the user requests and delivered. AI in SAP Business One is now a reality. Let’s explore it deeply.

What Is “Ask AI” in SAP Business One?

Ask AI is a chat-style assistant that shows up as a button in the toolbar of business documents and reports — a Sales Order, for instance — right next to Views and Edit User-Defined Values.

  • It’s context-aware: it can read the data already sitting on the document you’re looking at.
  • It answers cleverly and can take on assumptions, and follow-up questions.

How Do You Ask a Question From Inside a Document?

Click Ask AI on a Sales Order (or similar document), select the line items you care about, and type your question in plain English. As you type a table name — say, Product_Item. — SAP Business One auto-suggests the exact fields you can pull in, like ItemDescription or Quantity, and drops them into your question as live placeholders.

So a question like:

What are the expected time frames and costs for shipping in the USA for the following items: {Product_Item.ItemDescription} with the following respective quantities: {Product_Item.Quantity}?

The system pulls the actual item names and quantities off the order you’re viewing when you hit Ask AI.

What Kind of Answer Do You Actually Get?

One can expect proper answers and not scripted ones. In the video, we can see the same shipping question came back with:

  • Cost and transit-time ranges broken out by shipping method (ground, next-day air, etc.)
  • Notes on what moves the price — dimensional weight, residential surcharges, declared-value insurance
  • A clear recommendation (e.g., “compare LTL pallet vs. individual parcels for the printers”)
  • A short list of what more it would need to tighten the estimate

And if one desires, they may continue chatting further for answers. The AI keeps the memory and provides the relevant context for upcoming questions.

Does Ask AI Work on Reports and Analytics Too?

Yes. Inside Analytics, Ask AI sits as its own tile alongside User-Defined Queries, General Overview, and Crystal Reports. From there you can point it at a Source Object — Sales Orders, CRM, A/R Invoices, Deliveries, Returns, and so on — and save a reusable question against it (a title like “Shipping Time and Cost,” plus the question text with its field placeholders).

Ask AI also appears as a button on top of report results themselves. Run a Customer Detailed Aging report, click Ask AI, and ask what it thinks — you’ll get a written summary flagging which balances are furthest overdue and what action it would recommend, based on the numbers actually in the grid.

What Is AI-Powered Query Generation for User-Defined Queries?

Further, now AI can help you generate SQL queries within SAP Business One. Open a new User-Defined Query and you’ll see a Generate with AI button sitting right above the SQL Statement editor.

How Do You Build a Report Without Writing SQL?

Click Generate with AI and describe what you need in plain business language. For example:

I need a customer aging report that lists all unpaid customer invoices by posting date with six aging periods. Each period is based on how long an invoice’s balance due has remained outstanding. Include an explicit parameter setting to adjust the length of each aging period in days.

The AI assistant wrote back a complete SQL statement — querying the actual AR Invoice table, filtering out cancelled documents, calculating days outstanding, and structuring six aging buckets — along with a Result: Valid check.

What Happens After the SQL Is Generated?

You’re not just handed the raw SQL query but SAP Business One facilitates;

  • Apply Last Reply fills in the SQL Statement box directly.
  • Parameters are auto-detected — in this case, an Aging Period (Days) integer parameter shows ready to configure.
  • Columns are auto-populated with the right type (Dimension vs. Measure), aggregation, and decimal places already set.

From there it’s a normal SAP Business One query: preview, filter, chart (stacked column, pivot, etc.), and it can carry its own Ask AI button once it’s live as a report.

Is It Safe to Trust the AI-Generated Query?

Treat it the way you’d treat a first draft from a smart junior resource in your organization. Check the SQL query before proceeding.

What Do You Need to Turn AI On in SAP Business One?

To turn on the AI functionality in SAP Business One, businesses should do the following,

  • It runs on SAP AI Core on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) — you need a Pay-As-You-Go BTP account with the AI Core service provisioned.
  • Setup happens under Administration → System Initialization → Company Details → Generative AI, where you enable the feature and enter your SAP BTP Service Key and Resource Group.
  • You also choose the underlying AI model, decide whether your own User-Defined Fields and Tables should be visible to query generation, and set a maximum retry count for query generation.

In other words, this isn’t a checkbox that appears for free — it’s a BTP-connected service with its own usage-based cost, which is exactly the kind of setup decision worth getting right the first time rather than reconfiguring later.

Which SAP Business One Version Do I Need?

These two features — Ask AI and AI-Assisted User-Defined Queries are a part of SAP Business One 10.0, Feature Package 2608. If you’re on an older feature package, this is a good time to upgrade.

Should You Turn On AI in SAP Business One?

For most SAP Business One customers, the honest answer is: it depends less on “is the AI good” and more on getting the BTP groundwork, the data governance settings, and the team rollout right.
